Seventh Biennial Meeting of the Cognitive Development Society

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Symposia/Workshop Submission Guidelines

The deadline for symposia/workshop submissions is . Submissions will be accepted beginning on .

Symposia may reflect the “state of the art” on a given phenomenon or theory, or be a forum for motivation of some new domain of inquiry. Workshops should aim to teach new skills that will be relevant for research in cognitive development. We anticipate scheduling a total of 12 symposia/workshops, each slotted for 1 hour and 45 minutes. The proposal for a symposium or workshop should include a title; a list of participants and their affiliations; a 100-250 word introduction in which the organizer states the goal of the symposium or workshop, why it is important, and why this particular set of participants is appropriate for the topic; and a 100-250 word statement from each participant with an overview of what they plan to present. Poster symposia may be submitted and will be reviewed with other symposia submissions by the Program Committee.

So that we may accommodate a greater number of individuals on the program, individuals may participate in only one symposium or workshop as a presenter. However, serving as a discussant on a symposium is allowed in addition to a presentation. These limitations do not affect authorship. An individual may be listed as an author on any number of symposium presentations.

A Program Committee comprised of the non-officer members of the CDS Board (Martha Alibali, Dare Baldwin, Lisa Oakes, David Uttal, Amanda Woodward, and Jacqueline Woolley) will select the subset of submissions that best accomplish the meeting’s goals. Participants will be notified by of the committee’s decision.

Poster Submission Guidelines

The deadline for poster submissions is .  Submissions will be accepted beginning on

Posters will be presented during two evening sessions. Posters may highlight recent findings, present preliminary findings from ongoing research, seek feedback on proposed research, introduce a new approach, method, or technique, or initiate a dialog on a topic relevant for theory or methodology. The proposal for a poster should include a title, list of authors and their affiliations/contact information, and a 100-150 word abstract summarizing the poster. The abstract should resemble a traditional journal abstract: that is, it should report a specific plan or specific findings within the text but not include any tables or figures.

In keeping with the tradition of the CDS meeting, poster submissions will not receive a formal review.  Instead, submissions will be accepted in the following way:  1) each faculty or post-doctoral member may submit one poster proposal OR sponsor one poster submission for his/her lab; 2) those posters will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until 180 posters have been accepted; 3) posters in excess of 180 or second poster submissions from any one lab group will be accepted for presentation in an alternate poster session that will be scheduled during the last symposia session on each afternoon.

Note:  The above rules for sponsorship of a poster have no relation to the listed authors of a poster.  That is, a faculty or postdoctoral CDS member can only sponsor one regular poster, but they may be listed as authors on more than one regular poster as a result of collaborations with other sponsoring members.
